My involvement in real estate began with the purchase of my first condo. At the time I was teaching in Mundelein, and was anxious to complete my transition to adulthood by leaving the confines of my parents’ home. It didn’t take too long to realize, however, that my teacher’s salary did not leave much room for the self-indulgences I had grown accustomed to while living at home.

I knew I needed extra income, and was grateful to continue my part-time work with the Northbrook Park District. At the same time, I dreaded the idea of one day being the nation’s oldest lifeguard. Highly motivated to not be publicly viewed in a swimsuit at age 50, I took my summer earnings and purchased a second condo. I was now a landlady.

After a couple of years, I decided that being a landlady was not my forte. I sold both condos, and rehabbed a little ranch house in the Northbrook Highlands, where I spent my childhood.

Word of my real estate endeavors spread, and soon friends were asking for my advice on their own transactions. I was having the time of my life with my new hobby! It was at that point that my sister, Stacie, sat me down with her famous spreadsheets and a real estate license course schedule. I spent my Spring Break that year training to be a real estate agent.

I have been blessed with great success, and great happiness, in my career as a Realtor. I now own the home where Stacie and I were raised. Having greater flexibility with my work schedule has afforded me the opportunity to get more involved in my church and the community. Currently, I serve on the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life committee, and take part in a book club with a group of high school friends.
