This village was developed by William Aitken in 1929 to be patterned after his native home in Scotland. Today Bannockburn is one of the wealthiest communities in the nation. Bannockburn gets its fire protection from neighboring Deerfield and shares the high school as well.

Zoning ordinances require that the majority of homes be built on lots of four acres or more.
Transportation\
Commuter trains can be caught in neighboring Deerfield for a 39-minute express trip to the city. The Tri-State Tollway (I-94) can be accessed just outside of the village.
Schools
Elementary students attend schools in District 106 and 109. High school students attend Deerfield High School, District 113, one of the top 10 academic schools in the state. Trinity College, a private four-year institution is located within the village.
Shopping
Bannockburn is the home of Bannockburn Green, a beautifully landscaped shopping center set on 19-acres, featuring 35 unique specialty shops. Northbrook Court is just minutes away.
Recreation
Bannockburn residents are served by the Deerfield Recreational Department and are able to use all facilities for a small fee. College Park, located on the edge of town, offers indoor tennis courts, racquetball, aerobics and a fitness center for a membership fee.
