Founded in 1836 by homesteader Asa Dunton, the northwest suburban community of Arlington Heights has enjoyed dynamic and prosperous growth since World War II. The housing boom of the 1890’s highlighted this growth as the population doubled to over 60,000. An excellent public school system, convenience to O’Hare Airport and well balanced, high-quality residential and commercial areas continue to attract home buyers. Shopping options are plentiful and convenient, and many of Chicago’s most popular restaurants have opened outlets in Arlington Heights contributing to the community’s reputation for fine dining. Area residents also benefit from numerous well-organized community services, cultural programs and special events.

Housing
A strict local housing code preserves the value of the city’s older and vintage homes.

Transportation
Metra express commuters reach the Loop in just over half an hour from the local station. Bus service is available. Drivers have easy access to the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) via Illinois Rt. 53 and the Northwest Tollway (I-90).

Schools
Twenty-one public grade schools in Districts 15, 20, 21, 25 and 59 serve the Arlington Heights community. High school students generally attend schools in District 214 where over 80% of instructors hold advanced degrees. Most attend John Hersey or Buffalo Grove High Schools with a smaller percentage attending schools in Rolling Meadows and Wheeling. Private and parochial schools are available as an alternative to public education. The Keller Graduate School of Management, the northwest branch campus of Roosevelt College, and Harper Junior College are also located within city limits.

Shopping
Shoppers are just a few miles from the popular Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg and the Randhurst Mall in Mount Prospect. Any number of area shopping centers as well as specialty shops and small businesses of downtown Arlington Heights are convenient alternatives.

Recreation
The Arlington Heights Park District is ranked among the top five percent in the nation. The District maintains some 400 acres of parkland, including the Arlington Lakes Golf Club and Forest View Racquet Club. Thoroughbred racing enthusiasts come from miles around to visit the famed Arlington International Racecourse. The beautiful North School Park in the center of town was funded by resident contributions.

Hospitals
Northwest Community Hospital is a major in-town medical facility. Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines and Lutheran General in Park Ridge also serve residents.

Places of Worship
Arlington Heights is home to 32 houses of worship representing many religious denominations.
