Incorporated in 1958 with 67 acres, Buffalo Grove has increased to more than eight square miles that span the line between Lake and Cook Counties. Buffalo Grove is best described as a young, aggressive community with strong academic programs, controlled community development, and active citizen involvement. Transportation

Chicago & Northwestern commuter trains can be boarded four miles south in Arlington Heights for a 45-minute trip into the Loop. The RTA system provides transportation to the train station. The Northwest and the Tri-State Tollways are both accessible via major thoroughfares.

Schools

Residents are split between Cook and Lake Counties. Grade school students attend Districts 21, 96, and 102. High school students attend Districts 214 or 125. Adlai Stevenson High School in Lake County has one of the strongest academic achievement records in the state of Illinois. A Catholic grade school is also found locally as an alternative to public education. Both Harper Junior College and Junior College of Lake County are attended by community college students.

Shopping

Buffalo Grove has 17 mini-malls found throughout town; together they provide nearly 100 unique and specialty stores and a wide variety of convenient shopping. Hawthorn Center in nearby Vernon Hills features 159 stores and is just ten minutes by car. Northbrook Court is also a convenient alternative with over 140 stores, only 15 minutes away.

Recreation

The village has over 40 parks spanning more than 390 acres. Amenities include scenic lakes and lagoons, picnic areas, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts and football fields. The village also maintains two public golf courses and two swimming pools. The Park District is currently acquiring land for the development of a 75-acre central park site. Two riding stables and Arlington International Racecourse are located nearby.

Hospitals

Northwest Community Hospital in neighboring Arlington Heights is a 500-bed acute-care facility employing over 325 physicians. Two 24-hour treatment centers have opened within the community; one through Northwest Community and the other through Condell Memorial Hospital.

Places of Worship

Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, and Jewish congregations can be found locally. Other denominations can be found within the area.
