Incorporated as a village in 1899, Glenview was originally a small farming community. Today, Glenview is a spacious and quiet residential community with tree-lined streets and an award-winning school system. Careful planning and zoning, proximity to the Loop and O’Hare Airport, and a wide variety of homes in every price range have helped make this village one of the most popular on the North Shore. Glenview boasts controlled growth with a flourishing commercial base, which keeps taxes low.
The community has developed the site of the former Glenview Naval Air Station called The Glen. Included in this development are 64 acres of mixed residential, 35 acres of business / retail use and a 72-acre commercial / light industrial office park as well as two new golf courses and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
Transportation
Metra rail service from the two Glenview stations connects commuters with the Loop in just over one half-hour. Drivers are conveniently close to the Edens Expressway (I-94) on the town’s eastern boundary and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) to the west.
Schools
Most children attend District 34 elementary and junior high schools, then Glenbrook South High School in District 225, one of the highest rated schools in metropolitan Chicago. Some students attend New Trier and Maine Township schools. There are several private and parochial schools in the area. Oakton Community College in nearby Des Plaines also serves the area.
Recreation
Glenview’s award-winning Park District includes 30 parks and playgrounds, skating rinks, 28 outdoor and eight indoor tennis courts, two swimming pools, and an 18-hole public golf course. Park District programs are described in seasonal brochures mailed directly to residents, including a wide range of scheduled activities such as sports, arts, dance, fitness, and hobbies. Cook County Forest Preserve biking and horseback riding trails run through Glenview.
Shopping
Glenview is home to a wide variety of shopping and dining attractions. Old Orchard, The Glen Town Center, Golf Mill and Northbrook Court are major malls in the area.
Hospitals
Glenbrook Hospital serves the village. Lutheran General, Evanston Hospital, and Rush-North Shore Hospital are all just minutes from the community.
Places of Worship
All major denominations are represented with 22 places of worship within the village.
