The first settlers came from New England in search of rich farmland. Today, prospective homebuyers choose Palatine because of its “hometown” atmosphere. Palatine offers the perfect combination of country living with a suburban flair. Since 1980, the population has increased by nearly 25 percent and experienced an influx of young families. The village continues to encourage growth and development through new light industry.
Transportation
The Chicago & Northwestern Railroad offers fast and convenient transportation to the city with regularly scheduled stops in downtown Palatine. Bus service is available throughout the area. Illinois 53 is accessed just outside of town and connects drivers to all major arteries.
Schools
Districts 15 and 211 serve Palatine residents. Twelve of the nineteen elementary schools in District 15 fall within the town itself. High school students attend District 211 schools, two of which are located in Palatine. Christian schools are available to students in grades 1-12. Harper Junior College is located at the south end of town.
Shopping
Downtown Palatine has two popular shopping areas with a variety of stores. Six outlying shopping areas supplement this core group. In addition, Woodfield Mall, an exclusive indoor shopping complex with over 200 stores is located in nearby Schaumburg, a 10-minute drive on Illinois 53.
Recreation
Palatine is served by both Salt Creek Park and the Palatine Park District. Extensive acres of park land, bike trails and swimming pools encourage resident activity. At the village’s community center, four community-based theater groups hold performances in conjunction with local schools. The Palatine Park District offers more than 420 year-round classes and programs in fitness, sports, arts and crafts, and the performing arts.
Hospitals
Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights is a 400-bed facility staffed by 450 doctors. Excellent medical care is provided with the most modern equipment available. Humana Hospital-Hoffman Estates supplies a state-of-the-art level II trauma center and helipad for quick emergency transport.
